A Case Study on the Swallowing Rehabilitation of Patient with Hypopharyngeal Cancer

Abstract
Objective: This study of patients with hypopharyngeal cancer from onset during the process of surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, performed swallowing rehabilitation, swallowing ability improved by applying a case with review of literature, we report a case of it.

Methods: 46-year-old man was diagnosed with hypopharyngeal cancer patients was performed Rt. side extended supraglottic pharyngolarygectomy on March 25, 2009, Later than two weeks after surgery from April 12 until discharged on July 20 continued difficulty swallowing rehabilitation was performed.

Researchs: The swallowing rehabilitation of patients before treatment - after swallowing scores (Functional dysphagia scale) compares the results to the functional dysphagia scores after treatment is reduced, such as semi solid type yopeulre lower than the liquid the more fallen upon swallowing, swallowing ability scores showed improved results.
Conclusion: Currently a lot of studies about dysphagia associated with central nervous system disorders have been conducted, but dysphagia associated with head and neck cancer studies is incomplete. Therefore, the systematic rehabilitation through the development and application of the protocol for treatment need to be analyzed in accordance with head and neck cancer caused by a variety of causes and symptoms of dysphagia. Therefore, further complementary research is required.
